East Yancey Middle School is a small, rural middle school located on the east end of Burnsville, our county seat. We serve three elementary feeder schools: Micaville, South Toe, and Burnsville.
East Yancey opened its doors in 1958 as East Yancey High School. It was one of the two high schools in the county. In 1976, Yancey County consolidated the two high schools, East Yancey and Cane River, into Mountain Heritage High School. The two high schools were then turned into two middle schools.
Our vision at East Yancey is to provide a nurturing educational environment where students develop academic, social, and emotional skills necessary for a lifetime of learning.
