Good afternoon YCS families,
We are thankful for all the prayers, donations and support. We have 420+ employees in the school system and I thank everyone for helping in our schools, the churches and the community. Amazing work!
Update from YCS: Assessing our school needs and making progress
Cleaning up water damage in some classrooms, floors and ceiling tiles
Assessing the infrastructure needs at each school -
All schools have electricity
All have internet service except for BRES & CRMS
No water and sewer yet but the water may be a possibility soon than later
Gas lines are also being worked on for our kitchens
As we continue to get our schools back in order and clean:
October 14 - 18: Yancey County Schools will be closed again for students, faculty and staff. We ask our employees, if things are good at home and in you community, please come in and work with the principals on things that need to get done on our campuses next week.
We will have Teacher Workdays on October 21 - 25
We will let the employees know about those hours and duties next week. Principals will work with employees who are still stranded at home.
For our students:
The FFA students will be traveling to nationals with the Madison High kids in a few weeks.
Our Seniors can reach out to the counselors at the high school if they need assistance with their college applications and scholarships this week and next week.
Our student athletes will be traveling away with their teams for regional tournaments in women's volleyball, golf, tennis, cross country and men's soccer and football. Daron Williams and Joey Robinson have been working on a few Saturday games at the end of the month. It sounds like we will get to play Mitchell at Mars Hill College, Avery at Madison High School and away at Draughn on Saturdays during the day. We want people safe and not on the roads late at night.
We thank everyone again for jumping in to assist at the schools with donations, supplies, food, animal/vet care, and the Red Cross shelter. We are so blessed to live in this beautiful place and call Yancey County home. Stay safe as we work together to get back on track.
