Good evening, this is Mr. Byland with several announcements from East Yancey Middle School,
Our six graders will have a celebration on Tuesday evening during school.
On Wednesday, all 8th graders will be going to Mountain Heritage for a tour in the afternoon, as they prepare for registering for high school classes soon.
On Thursday evening, starting at 5pm, we will have a math and science night here at East Yancey. We will be dissecting squids and having fun with math.
On Friday, students will have clubs.
Parents, if you have a student that takes a routine medication and is attending the DC trip, you will need to speak with Nurse Hannah during school hours to obtain the correct paperwork and receive further instructions. Students that have registered a self-carry medication with Nurse Hannah at school are REQUIRED to bring their medication with them and must check it in with Mr. Byland the morning of departure. Students that fail to present their meds on or before the morning of departure are at risk of exclusion from the trip.
Sports Section:
The conference wrestling tournament will be at Mitchell on Saturday.

UPDATE - Phone lines should be operational again. Thank you to Frontier for working so quickly!
Yancey County Schools families, we are aware of the outage of Frontier services which affects the phone lines at many of our campuses. We have been informed that they are currently working to fix the issue. If you need to get in contact with your child's school, please email the principal or your child's teacher. Due to the Cold Weather Advisory and dangerous wind chills, Yancey County Schools will be on a 2 hour delay on Friday, January 16, 2026. Buses will not run on icy roads.
There are currently snow showers across the county so we will assess the roads in the morning and make any changes by 6:30 a.m. The delay will give us time to make sure all of our buses and mechanical systems are working properly on our school campuses.

We found a driver for bus 133 for the rest of the week, so buss 133 will be in operation.
The science and math night planned for Thursday night has been moved to the next week.

Good evening, this is Mr. Byland with several announcements from East Yancey Middle School,
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, we look forward to seeing you by 7:50 on Monday morning.
Final grades for the second nine weeks will be viewable on the Infinite Campus Parent app as of Friday. If you would like a printed report card, please have your child stop by the office on Friday.
Please remember that if your child is going home with someone other than you, we need a note from both the parent that is sending the child and the parent that is receiving the child. This is for safety and to make sure everyone involved knows what’s going on.
On January 15th, starting at 5pm, we will have a math and science title one night here at East Yancey. We will be dissecting squids and having fun with math. Please add that to your calendar to attend. We will be sending out a sign up form shortly for all families to sign up so we know how many squids to have ready.
The next DC trip deposit is due on January 16th.
